A letter last September in the Daily Telegraph, from consultant orthopaedic surgeon David Nunn, complained about the impact of the EU’s Working Time Directive on the standard of medical care in hospitals. Peter Galbraith (The Case for Dividing Iraq, 13 November 06) says “it is not possible to build a national army when there is no nation to begin with”. Quite right.
