Party Funding from Public Purse
You are right (leader 27 August) to argue against party funding from the public purse.
It would indeed loosen the already tenuous connection between the parties and their supporters, and further undermine their accountability to the electorate.
But may I suggest there are two other equally important and fundamental objections?

Mrs Thatcher carefully retained for the British government a ‘golden share’ when the British Airports Authority was privatised.
It was later quietly abandoned by Mr Blair in compliance with EU directives. BAA is now owned by a Spanish trading company.
