First Day in the Office and EU Commissioner gets it Wrong

On her first working day as an EU commissioner Dalia Grybauskaite, the former Lithuanian finance minister was told that she was wrong by fellow left-winger Terry Wynn, Labour (UK) member of the Budget Control Committee. The letter from the Centre for a Social Europe (6 September) carefully used some of the words that formed part of the brief to Valery Giscard d’Estaing which led to the proposed EU constitution. His original brief from the European Council meeting in Laeken in December 2001 called for ‘more transparency, more democracy, more efficiency’.
